Fourteen Tsunami teams participated in the annual Peachtree Classic Tournament this past weekend. Tsunami was once again well represented in all age levels! The Big Wave was led by the 18 Black team as they went undefeated in the tournament to take the Championship! 18 Black defeated ProLink, Team Sting, North Atl, and CSA in Saturday's pool play to place them in the Gold Bracket. Sunday morning brought tough competition from BVC, Team Sting, and West Florida, but the Big Wave proved unstoppable and 18 Black completed their perfect tournament without ever dropping even a game! Congratulations 18 Black!!

Congratulations to 17 Black's Kristen Fleming who has been selected by Prep Volleyball as one of the top sophomores in the country. PrepVolleyball has just published The 2008 Soph 79: The Best High School Sophomores in the Country and we are so proud of Kristen and her accomplishments. This is a tremendous acheivement - congratulations, Kristen!

We are looking to do two more setter's sessions the next two Mondays (3/9 and 3/16). The format will be similar to the earlier one this season, and we will once again focus on getting reps and technical feedback. 14 Tsunami teams traveled to Huntsville, AL this past weekend to compete in the NASA Big Spring Bash. Tsunami had an outstanding showing at all levels of this high quality tournament! But it was our 17 Black team who led the way taking the Championship in the 18 Gold Division! 17 Black went undefeated in pool play on Saturday putting away Delta Force, RCVC 181, and ChooChoo City 181. In Sunday's Gold Bracket the big wave swept past RCVC 182 in the quarter finals and Delta Force in the semi finals hoping to face our own Tsunami 18 Black team in the finals. But the Tsunami vs. Tsunami finals wasn't to be as 18 Black fell just short to a strong Team Sting 181 in their own semi finals match. So it was Team Sting vs. 17 Black in the 18 Gold finals and at the end of the exciting 3 game match 17 Black came out on top to take home the Championship! Congratulations 17 Black!!

Coming off a tournament championship in the Southern Draw, 13-Black moved up a class to play in the 14Gold level of the Cyclone Classic. The team started off the day with a win over tournament host, Cyclone 14-1. They proceeded to beat ProLink 14-1, TCA 14-2, and Ga5 14-1 in pool play. In the semi-finals 13-Black beat TCA 14-1, and extended their win streak to 14 matches in a row. The match-up in the finals was against an A5 14-2 team that was also undefeated in pool play. After losing a close 1st set the team settled down and beat A5 25-12. In the third set, the power and experience of the A5 team proved to be too much as they won fairly easily. 13-Black used their defensive tenacity and smart play to fight all day long against older and bigger competition. The captains for the day (Lilly and Christine) earned their honors, by providing spark to the team. Next up for the team is Birmingham on 2/14 and 2/15.

Tsunami 13-Black won their opening tournament at the Southern Draw in Suwanee, GA over the MLK weekend. The team finished off the weekend with a 9-0 match record and an 18-2 set record. The team played hard and improved throughout the three day tournament, and eventually ended up beating a tough Club South 13-1 team (25-20, 25-15) in the finals. The best thing about the weekend was the improvement from start to finish. This team looks to make huge waves throughout the season!

Amelia James Roberts arrived today welcomed by proud parents Zach and Sarah and the rest of our Tsunami family. Mom and baby are healthy and resting- Daddy Zach is on cloud nine :) Congratulations Zach and Sarah - we can't wait to meet baby Amelia and start her volleyball education!

18 Black traveled to the Suwanee Sports Academy over the MLK weekend to compete in their season opener, the 2009 Southern Draw. The team dispatched ProLink, GA Jrs., and Magnum on Saturday all in two straight sets. On Sunday the girls faced Dig It, Club South, and GA-5 again defeating all three teams in straight sets. Coming into Monday's tournament play seeded #1, the team defeated North Atlanta in the quarter finals to face their toughest competition yet from a strong Inland VBC in the semi-finals. After two exciting sets Tsunami 18 Black was through to the Finals to face A5 16-1. The Big Wave came out strong and completed their perfect tournament in two sets to win the 2009 Suwanee Southern Draw! Congratulations girls!
