When are try-outs and how do I register?
Try-outs are typically mid-October and early November. For 2008-2009, our try-out schedule can be found here, and our registration is available online here.
Your website mentions callbacks. What if I can't make both nights of tryouts?
If you can only attend the first day of tryouts, please let us know at check in that you will not be able to return for the callbacks. If you cannot attend the first day of tryouts, you MUST send us an email (dun@tsunamivolleyball.com) letting us know you would like to come for callbacks. If you cannot attend either of your scheduled tryout times, we will do what we can to work with you, but there are no guarantees. Please contact Dun (dun@tsunamivolleyball.com) to see if there are alternate opportunities to tryout.
How long is Tsunami's season?
Commitment night is in mid-November. Practices begin shortly after that. Our first tournaments are in January and the regular season ends in April. If a team qualifies for Nationals, they will continue playing in to late June/early July.
What is the cost for my daughter to participate?
Each season, these costs vary depending on the level and frequency each team elects to play. Our 12-year-old Club team has a significantly lower cost than our 18 year old Power team. For more information on finances with Tsunami, please visit our Financial Information page.
Do returning players receive preferential treatment as part of the tryout process?
No. No spots are guaranteed for any player. All athletes must go through the tryout process each season.
How often, where, and what nights do you practice?
We have several local schools that work well with us to provide gym space. Currently, all of our facilities are located in the Fairburn, GA area. Most of our teams will practice three times a week. Two practices will be during the week, typically Mon and Wed or Tues and Thurs evenings. There will also be a Sunday afternoon practice. Based on gym availability, there is a possibility that some Club teams will only practice two days a week. Exact days and times are not set until tryouts are completed.
When will coaches be posted?
We are fortunate to have several of the top high school coaches in the state on our coaching staff. (Our coaches have numerous Georgia State Championships and an incredible number of Top Ten finishes.) Because of Georgia High School Association rules, our high school coaches cannot have any volleyball related contact with any of their players outside of the school season. Therefore, until tryouts are over, we do not know which schools are going to be represented on each team. For a current list of our available coaches for 2009, visit our Coaching page.
Are you affiliated with any school programs?
We are not. In 2008, our club consisted of athletes from 32 different area schools. Athletes from as far as Suwannee, GA (approx 50 miles) and Columbus, GA (approx 90 miles) consistently see the value in traveling to play for Tsunami.
I want to play up an age. Do I have to tryout for my own age group?
It is in your best interest to tryout for your own age group. If you are capable of competing at a higher level, we will ask you to join the older group at tryouts. Our policy is that an athlete can play "up" if she is capable of being a starter at the older age group. However, if you do not tryout with your age group, you will not be considered for a spot at your correct age group.
